Conference: Nature sport in the era of climate change

Outdoor activities, sometimes resource-intensive, are mostly practised in sensitive natural areas. In the era of climate change and increasing scarcity of resources, and after the containment linked to COVID-19, how can nature sports become the driving force for a sustainable development of tourism in the Alps?

The conference will beginn with professor Dominik Siegrist, who will outline the current and future challenges for destinations and their populations. Alongside the management of the current crisis, the discussions will focus in particular on the impact of climate change on nature sports.
The second part of the conference will focus on the extent to which outdoor activities can become an opportunity for sustainable tourism in the Alps. Current initiatives will be presented, as well as innovative approaches developed in the different countries of the Alpine Arc to promote the sustainable development of tourism.
To finish, Christian Baumgartner will present and comment on a model that can help to tackle the challenges of sustainable tourism in the Alps at local and regional level, in a comprehensive and integrated approach.
